I read about the Google+ project with some enthusiasm. Could this be what Facebook could be, should be?
Facebook has stepped up security a bit in recent years, but it’s still far from where most of us would like it. And the ability to effectively partition professional and public lives isn’t as robust, both in terms of actual security and mindshare, as it needs to be to assuage most people’s doubts…at least those folks with whom I’ve spoken.
Leaving Google’s own spotty security out of the discussion for the moment (Eric Schmidt, Googlemobiles, etc.), Google knows that the tool to dethrone Facebook – if it can be done at all – must include a better security mechanism than FB has been able (willing?) to provide.
Another “plus” for Google+ is that it’s designed by Andy Hertzfeld, the “original Mac guy”, who knows a thing or two about User Interfaces (UIs). For anyone who has complained about the Facebook UI, this is a HUGE bonus.
I’d love to review Google+ and post my thoughts if I can get an invite. Hello Google, anyone there? :)

A good friend submitted this candid “review of a review” of Battle: Los Angeles. After all, who are you going to trust more, a paid movie reviewer or your buddy? I thought so. :-)
“I did go see it & I’m pleasantly surprised. I give it two thumbs up. I agree with everything in the [other] review except for their enjoyment of the hand held camera and I guess they liked it a little bit more than I did. I’d probably give it a 4 – 4 1/2 out of 5. There was one scene going down an alley – or between two houses – where the camera was wildly swinging from far right to left that was a little too much for me. Everything else was right on. I won’t spoil things till you see it. I’ll just say for now that I’d place the original War of the Worlds and Independence Day in one category and the remake of War of the Worlds and Battle LA in another category. I kind of enjoy the original War of the Worlds/Independence Day category better. Have you seen Earth VS the Flying Saucers? Classic movie of this ilk with special effects by stop motion photography master Ray Harryhousen. Really good.”
“The general premise of us fighting off something that has the tech to come here is pretty far fetched but what are you going to do — have a movie where all the people are wiped out and the Greys are laying back on the beach slurping down our Classic Coke?”
